Hi Ted, Thanks for stopping by and for an excellent question.

Blessings are dependent on obedience -- Christ's obedience. We are in a new covenant, initiated by Christ's blood (Hebrews 9). Blessings dependent on our obedience is the law covenant. The law covenant states that there must be perfect 100% obedience in order to get the blessings (Deut 28:1-14). Failure even once means the curses (Deut 28:15-68). Jesus came along and made it clear obedience under the law must be internal -- from the heart -- as well as external. Romans 3:19 says of the purpose of the law, "...that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God."

That's why we needed a savior. Jesus Christ came as the perfect man, the last Adam (Romans 5) and by HIS perfect obedience, He is blessed -- and all those in Him. We are in Christ not because of our doing, but because of the Father's doing (1 Cor 1:30), so that no flesh would boast.

Steve,

So glad you found our site and that this article has helped you.

I think you will find the latest episode in our Daily in Christ podcast, Hebrews #12: Righteousness Make a Huge Difference, should be of particular help for you in your current circumstances.

Let me encourage you to listen to our latest series, "Hebrews: The Glory of the New Covenant". It is a revolutionary and thoroughly biblical teaching on the New Covenant, a topic few Christians -- or even pastors -- know anything about. Another helpful series is "Living in the Reality of Perfect Sanctification".

You can also subscribe to our weekly podcast, Daily in Christ, in the iTunes Store.

I'm praying that you will find a church that preaches Christ, His finished work, the New Covenant and The Bible!

Bless you, brother!

Dear Mark-
I was raised in Pentecostal circles from the age of 23 or so when I was converted to Christ. What once was a time of celebration (mostly of our own holiness compared to others) has in the last 2 or 3 years become unbearable. I began attending an AG church near my home a little over a year ago, thinking I was grown enough to "survive" an Arminian church. It is embarassing to admit that for 2 or 3 days following Sunday sermons I am scrambling to regain my salvation. Those who don't understand the issues think I am splitting hairs, but to me the difference is insurmountable. After a Christian lifetime of living sanctimoniously and blindly to what I truly am, the constant stream of moralism and encouragement to self will that they call obedience is for me death. Words fail to express the torment that overwhelms me as I leave church on Sunday mornings.
I just wanted to know that I come to your site to regain my moorings - to reprogram myself on the days following Sunday. I have some great friends there - who are clueless as to where I am - and have tried to stay for them and for faithfulness' sake, but am currently church shopping. Sounds like a dirty word, doesn't it? Thank God that He has established you and made your ministry available to so many, including me. God Bless

I found your site when I google "everbody has a theology", which is the title of my site. I have long been thinking of making commentary on the book of Hebrew, now your site is an excellent reference. I would like to share them and translate some into Chinese if that's okay with you? Thanks!
